The circumstances around this portrait were difficult. The subject was a much loved law professor, but wheelchair bound and very ill. I painted him seated at his desk, as he wished, but from an earlier photo of him at a picnic table with family. I put him in his favorite sweater - he refused suit and tie. And as he was unable to get to his second floor office with its old, beautiful wiindows, I photographed the office and used those photos for background reference.
